From the Valle de Vegacervera there are four ski resorts within reach, two of them less than an hour away. This guide doesn't sell you any of them: it tells you how far each one is from our door, who it suits and how to combine them in one weekend depending on the snow.
The four resorts, nearest first
Valgrande-Pajares · about 28 km, a good half hour. In the Asturian municipality of Lena, just over the Puerto de Pajares pass. Around 30 km of slopes between 1,450 and 1,890 metres, open since 1954. The closest one, and the one you can ski without losing the morning. More in rural house near Valgrande-Pajares.
San Isidro · about 52 km, around 55 minutes. León's own resort, in Puebla de Lillo: four sectors (Cebolledo, Riopinos, Requejines and Salencias) adding up to around 34 km when everything is open. Family atmosphere and slopes for every level. See rural house near San Isidro.
Fuentes de Invierno · about 66 km, just over an hour. On the Asturian side of the San Isidro pass. Small, around 8-9 km, and usually quieter: a good choice on a day when the big ones are crowded.
Leitariegos · about 110 km, almost two hours. On the border with Asturias, via Villablino. Between 1,513 and 1,800 metres, around 8 km of slopes. A full day trip from here.

Choose in the morning, not when you book
In the Cantabrian Mountains the snow decides, and it changes from week to week. The 2025-26 season was short on natural snow: San Isidro opened on 5 December with six and a half kilometres. That is why staying at a midpoint beats staying at the foot of the slopes: from the valley you have Pajares to the north and San Isidro and Fuentes de Invierno to the east, and you pick the best snow each morning.
Snow chains
Pajares is reached over its mountain pass and San Isidro by mountain road: always carry snow chains in season and check road conditions before setting off, as the Spanish traffic authority (DGT) may require them or close a pass. Staying in the valley keeps you below the passes.

Where to stay: one base for all of them
La Finca del Valle is three design houses in Vegacervera, four guests each and up to fifteen across the three. What skiers appreciate most is the underfloor heating throughout, which dries boots, gloves and jackets overnight, and a full kitchen to cook dinner without getting back in the car. For Christmas and New Year, see Christmas in a rural house in León. Availability on our booking page.

Maelo, Teleno and Braña: three design houses with underfloor heating, a furnished terrace and the mountains as a garden.
