A family Christmas has one problem nobody says out loud: everyone fits around the table, but not in the same house. La Finca del Valle is three design houses side by side in the Valle de Vegacervera, half an hour from León: you have dinner together, and at bedtime each family closes its own door. Twelve fixed beds, up to fifteen with extra beds.
Three houses, not one
Maelo and Teleno have two bedrooms and two bathrooms each; Braña has one bedroom and a sofa bed. Each house has its own kitchen, bathrooms and key. Grandparents sleep away from the cousins' noise, early risers wake no one, and Christmas Eve dinner is cooked in three kitchens instead of one with twelve people in it. Underfloor heating throughout keeps every room warm in December and dries snow clothes overnight.
New Year's Eve without driving
The simplest advantage of spending New Year's Eve here: the party is ten steps from your bed. No one drives a mountain road at three in the morning, and 1 January starts with the valley in silence. In 2027 New Year's Day falls on a Friday, so the holiday weekend runs Friday to Sunday.
Snow half an hour away
The Valgrande-Pajares ski resort is about 28 km away, a good half hour by car, and San Isidro about 55 minutes. With two resorts within reach, you choose each morning according to the snow report: see ski resorts near León. If you don't ski, there is sledging, snowshoeing and the Hoces de Vegacervera gorge, a ten-minute walk from the door. Note that the Valporquero Cave closes from 14 December to the end of February.
The December long weekend
Spain's Constitution Day (6 December) and the Immaculate Conception (8 December) make early December the best week of the winter to visit: the cave is still open until 13 December and the resorts try to open their season that weekend. If the snow arrives, you ski; if not, the cave is ten minutes away.

How many people can stay for Christmas?
Twelve in fixed beds across the three houses (Maelo, Teleno and Braña) and up to fifteen with extra beds. They are independent houses, each with its own kitchen, bathrooms and key, so several families can celebrate together and sleep in their own house.
Can we all have dinner together on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve?
Yes. The three houses are next to each other on the same estate: you can cook in all three kitchens and gather in one of them for dinner. There is no shared banquet hall.
Is there snow at Christmas?
It depends on each winter. The valley is at mid altitude and snow comes and goes; the reliable snow is at the ski resorts, Valgrande-Pajares half an hour away and San Isidro about 55 minutes.
Is the Valporquero Cave open at Christmas?
No. The cave season runs from 1 March to 13 December. It is open over the early December long weekend, then closed until March.
How far ahead should we book Christmas?
As early as possible. There are only three houses and Christmas, New Year and Epiphany are the first dates to go. Real availability is shown on the booking page.
